Important Note: This is pure speculation. I no nothing about this family aside from recently looking them up on Google and Wikipedia. I am not implying that I have special knowledge, or that they are anything other than regular (albeit wealthy) people.
However if there were to be descendants of “The Watchers” around today, they tick many boxes. I hope to have many more guesses in the future, and all will of course be unsubstantiated.
The Premise: The mysterious elders almost certainly have characteristics that could well continue to this day, if they still exist:
- From the Middle East/Turkey region
- Long history that even secrecy cannot fully hide
- Wealth
- Some level of in-breeding
- Very religious – Jewish?
Being orthodox Jewish seems to fit well. They notoriously don’t breed with outsiders, which is convenient if they want to continue a bloodline. And being secretive seems like a match also. However, we mustn’t confuse keeping it in the family for a general tendency to marry cousins in the Middle East. Instances of not marrying family members could be more meaningful.
But on the other hand, Ashkenazim, and the Samaritans – are the most inbred people.

Of course they can’t have been in-breeding purely for 10,000 years, but there may be degrees of it. And maybe some kind of science to the genetics they let in when they accept non-family members.
Did the Atlanteans have something special genetically (powers), or were they misguided. Could simply keeping the knowledge safe be the key, and keeping it in family. And perhaps getting rich enough to use their money every 500 or whatever years for whatever their mission is
Here’s what the internet tells me about the Safra family:
The Safra Group is heavily into banking. The privately owned Safra National Bank of New York serves high-net-worth individuals, and J. Safra Sarasin is the sixth largest Swiss Bank. Which means power and influence.
Founded by Jacob Safra (1891-1963), “with its base in Lebanon, the Banco Jacob E. Safra became the bank of choice for many of Syria’s and Lebanon’s rich Sephardic Jewish families, who trusted the Safras to manage their business and personal financial interests with care and discretion.”
In 1920, Safra married his cousin Esther Teira (1904–1943). They had 4 sons and 4 daughters.
About Edmond Safra, from the recently published A Banker’s Journey: How Edmond J. Safra Built a Global Financial Empire by Daniel Gross:
…Edmond forged personal relationships with Yitzhak Rabin and Yitzhak Shamir, Henry Kissinger and Margaret Thatcher, Robert Kennedy and the Reagans… attending state dinners at the White House, doing business with the Rothschilds…
…Edmond was regarded as a secretive outsider. He kept no diary… His preferred modes of communication were the telephone and talking in person.
…the Safras first emerged on paper. On March 29, 1858, Edmond’s great-grandfather, Yaacov Safra, married Garaz Hacohen in Aleppo.
…In promotional literature…the Safras were “an old established family of bankers and gold traders in Aleppo who financed the camel caravans of the Silk Road” and had outposts in the Far East, Istanbul and Alexandria.
…They ran on a culture of honor and trust based on personal relationships and verbal understanding, not contracts or credit checks. This is one of the reasons there is so little documentation of these generations of Safras.
…Businesses were meant to be retained in the family, which is one of the reasons it was common for men to marry their first cousins.
…He could turn to his uncles in Egypt, Syria and turkey for credit, and forged links with Jewish European banks such as Mocatta & Goldsmid and N.M. Rothschild in London.
There was also a seemingly dark side:
As far back as 1957, Edmond Safra was named as a drug trafficker in a US Bureau of Narcotics report. The accusation was later withdrawn, but until his death Safra was the inspiration for countless unsubstantiated rumours that linked him to drug, gold and currency trafficking, money laundering and organised crime. (Guardian)
He was also in Jeffrey Epstein’s little black book.
A few of the family are very rich from being art dealers, and there is a real connection between some art dealers and crime syndicates. Essentially:
“If I give you a $500,000 minor work by Monet plus $2.5m of cocaine, and you give me $3m, it is listed as payment for the Monet. It’s all done through shell companies as a legitimate sale of art,” he says. “On paper, there’s nothing that raises red flags. If a US company is buying this artwork, the IRS doesn’t care – I mean, paying too much for art isn’t a crime.”
The modern family tree is here. Edmond married a Jewish woman, but she was seemingly not related to the Safras in any way. Just like Harry leaving the royal family, it would not be surprising that many of this lineage are not interested in their mystical background. But possibly there are some flag-bearers in the family.
The only one of Joesph Safra’s children to marry a cousin (that I have found) is
- Gaby Safra (1937–2022), married to her cousin Elliot Safra (1920–2003), 2 children
- Their children are Joseph, Richard Safra, and Jacques Safra.
- Joesph married Sarah, Michèle Terrab-Maslaton and “The Ṭārab-Maslaton family is one of the most famous Jewish families of Damascus. Over the years it has produced many outstanding Torah scholars, some of them served as spiritual leaders in Syria, Lebanon, and the Syrian communities in Egypt, the United States, and Israel.”
So unless the rich Safras are just an adjunct to those continuing the mission of the Watchers, then the baton appears to have been passed on to one of the children of Joesph – Elliot, Gabrielle and Alberto
Fun fact: Vicky Safra (and family) are in the list of the world’s 100 richest people, worth $16B
If there are “Watchers” still around today, and still based in/near Syria, then the Safra’s are bound to know of them, at the very least. But note that there are apparently zero Jews left in Syria. They all emigrated many decades ago, or fled recently.
